Its funny how I always get an itch to customize my blog on weekends. I grabbed some spare time last week and polished my knowledge of XHTML that Blogger (and other blogs) use. Also I scanned trough some blogger customizing blogs about some modifications I intend to do. So while listening to the great soundtrack of the "009-1" anime series, I am pimping a bit these pages.

Calibre - Overflow LP [Signature]

The long awaited new album from my favorite drum and bass artist, Calibre, has hit the record stores. This album represents the new start for him and for my work also :D. "...Statistically, You got more chance of lying on the city streets, then actually finishing the school..." rimes of DRS in "Slums" keep you focused on the real life, while "Alone In The Crowd" and "Into The Groove" reminds you why you love to dance to the drum and bass.

Ten tracks on five peaces vinyl LP is more than enough to keep me rockin'. More dancefloor friendly and still intelligent and mentally strong as concrete. Essential listening as far as I am concerned.

AniDB.info list of animes I own

For anyone interested in Anime Series & Movies, here is a ever expanding and growing list of animes I own.
Highly recommend stuff can be found on AniDB.info. As a source of information for aired and released animes, and also soon to be aired series, this site is unquestinably the best one there is. Also highly automated list of your collection of anime can be generated trough this site, so no more searching trough your DVD collection manualy. Also as you can see from my example, you can always post link to your collection, so your friends can reserve the series they will steal from you next time they come around.

Here is short info about AniDB.info website:

AniDB stands for AnimeDataBase. AniDB is a non-profit anime database that is open freely to the public. This means that all users have the ability to add or edit information to AniDB. AniDB contains information about all Japanese anime (TV series, OVA, Movies, etc.) that can be accessed through the Animelist. AniDB considers "anime" as an animated, professionally produced, feature work created by a Japanese staff for the Japanese market.There are exceptions, but that is the general rule, for a detailed discussion take a look at the definition. Since AniDB is open for everyone, everyone is able to add or edit series, episodes, specials, or any other type of information which are or aren't in the database yet. This allows users the freedom to shape AniDB's anime information to become the best it can be.

Switching to new Blogger v2

My oh my, Blogger informed me that I am ready for new and improved version of Blogger. Let's see what it looks like. First of all, my old design is killed, so I am off to make a new one. Not that I had much use of the old one ( see the date of the post before this one, hehehe). Yes I know I've been lazy, but hey, lots of New Years parties and other crap involving them stalled me a bit.
But, now I am back on track.....

What is Anime?

What does "anime" mean in Japan?
"Anime" in Japan technically means any animated film, regardless of origin.

Also, "manga" is any printed comic.

Why not use this definition?
This is too broad, this would mean anything that is animated (Bugs Bunny, Micky Mouse, ...) would be considered anime.

What does the rest of the world think?
People in the rest of the world take "anime" to mean animated films from Japan.

Why not use this definition?
What does "from Japan" really mean? What if a show is produced by a Japanese company and was released in Japan, but was drawn in India because of cheap labor, is it an anime?
What about that animated commercial for a bar of soap, is that anime? Also, many people consider many shows from China and Korea to also be anime because their style is similar to other anime.

What about using the styles to define an anime?
Anime styles are frequently distinctive and fairly easy to recognize. The stereotype is of characters with huge hair and large eyes. Although this is true of many animes (to varying degrees), there are also many animes that do not fit this description.
Also not everything with big eyes is necessarily an anime either.

So what IS an anime?
An anime is an animated, professionally produced, feature film created by a Japanese company for the Japanese market.

What does this mean?

First of all, an anime needs to be animated. Live action, or something with just a few animated scenes is not an anime.

An anime has to be professionally produced. This means that fan made shows are not considered anime.

It has to be a feature film, that means it has to have a plot. For instance an animated soap commercial is not an anime.

The anime needs to be created by a Japanese company. The company can collaborate with other companies out of the country, but it has to have some involvement with a Japanese company.

The anime needs to be created for the Japanese market. For instance, Disney may collaborate with a Japanese company on the making of a film for the United States, but it is not an anime even though a Japanese company is involved.
